Steingart et al. have assessed the diagnostic accuracy of Xpert for pulmonary TB and for rifampicin resistance in this Cochrane Review. The review found that Xpert achieved a pooled sensitivity of 88% and specificity of 98% when used as an initial test replacing smear microscopy, and as an add-on test following a negative smear result, Xpert yielded a pooled sensitivity of 67% and specificity of 98%. The authors concluded that Xpert used as an initial diagnostic test for TB detection and rifampicin resistence is sensitive and specific.
