Rapid, accurate diagnoisis of tuberculosis (TB) is critical for timely initiation of treatment, and ultimately, control of the disease. Currently available diagnostics are time- and labour- intensive, and the lack of appropriate diagnostic tools remains a major obstacle for TB control in low-income countries. There is an urgent need for new TB diagnostics that can be used in settings with resource constraings.

This UNITAID report describes existing TB diagnostics and the pipeline of expected future methods and tools; chatacterizes unmet needs and the extent to which the pipeline may address these; and highligh areas of persisting market shortcomings and potential opportunities for market-based interventions.
